Alternative Processes is a learning platform and community for historical, experimental and sustainable photographic processes, a place to discover techniques, connect with artists and get inspired.
WHERE are we?
Our organisation exists primarily online. This decision was driven by a passionate commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. We recognise that the intricate processes we cover, can often be confined to specific locations or circles. By grounding ourselves in the digital realm, we've aimed to bridge these gaps and ensure that no matter where someone resides—they have the ability to access resources, dedicated opportunities, and a like-minded community.

Our overarching goal has always been to democratize these art forms, to ensure it remains accessible and resonant for everyone, irrespective of their backgrounds or resources. This vision is rooted in the belief that art should be a shared experience, open and available to all.
How you can support us
Every piece of content you come across here, and on our associated social platforms - whether it's a cheat-sheet, a video, or an insightful article - is a labor of love, carefully crafted by me, Chiara, the proud founder of AP. But while I am the driving force, I’m not alone on this journey. A wonderful community of passionate contributors stands with me, sharing their knowledge and expertise. Our shared goal? To provide a pool of curated resources that remain freely accessible to all.
The best way to support us is to enrol inside our Alternative Processes Academy, Here, I, Chiara, impart the wisdom from a decade of hands-on experimentation, unraveling 10+ unique processes, with a special emphasis on printing with light on surfaces and materials.
Every enrolment directly fuels our mission. The resources generated are diligently reinvested into producing more educational content, articles, research, interviews, and curated shows.
Moreover, it aids in the meticulous maintenance of our website and the crafting of regular newsletters brimming with knowledge and inspiration (to which you can sign up here).
